Connor Macleod, born in the Highlands of Scotland in 1518, is an immortal. When he is wounded in battle but does not die, he is banished from his village. Ramirez, another immortal like himself, teaches him swordsmanship--the only way to kill another immortal is to take his head--and the ways of the immortals. The location of "The Gathering," where Connor and the few remaining immortals must battle to the last for "The Prize," is modern-day New York.

Immortal Connor Macleod was born in the Highlands of Scotland in 1518. After being wounded in battle but failing to die, he is exiled from his village. Connor subsequently meets Ramirez, another immortal, who instructs him in the art of swordsmanship and the ways of the immortals. The only means by which one immortal can kill another is to remove their head. The final confrontation between Connor and the remaining immortals, known as "The Gathering," takes place in the modern-day setting of New York City, where they must fight to the death for "The Prize."
